Work on a routine together
Try to establish a routine that influences in educational programs that are accessible online, on the television or through the radio. Use everyday activities as gear towards learning opportunities for your children.
Children need to have flexibility in daily routines during these times. Change up your activities when your child seems restless and agitated when you’re having them to follow an online learning program, switch to a more active program. Stay focused on their needs and doing activities together is safely great for their motor functions development.
Build open interactions
Boost your children’s confidence to ask you questions and express what they feel. Always put in mind that your child may have different responses to stress, so be patient and understanding. Start by encouraging your child to talk to you about the issue. Teach good hygiene methods that help them enhance the importance of it in daily life. Open discussion in the form of drawing, story-telling, and other activities.
Be sure to accept their feelings and reassure them that it’s okay to feel scared about these things. Let them feel that you’re listening by giving them your full attention, and make sure they understand that they can express themselves to you and their teachers whenever they feel like it.
Start with short lessons and take your time
Start with shorter learning and activity sessions and make a longer phase. If you want to achieve a 30- or 45-minute session, start with 10-15 minutes and progressively up from there. Within a session, Mix online time with offline fun activities or exercises.
Protect your children from the Internet
Online platforms provide an opportunity for children to learn and be educated, take part in activities, and communicate with their friends. But due to increased accessibility online brings higher risks for children’s safety, privacy, and security. Openly discuss the digital world with your children so that they know what it does, what they need to know about, and what proper behavior should they act on the platforms they use, such as video calls.
Set standards together on when, where, and how the internet can be used. Create parental control on their devices to avoid online risks, especially for younger children. Choose appropriate online applications for good- recreation together. In the case of cyberbullying or experience of unsuitable content online, be aware of the school and other local reporting processes, saving numbers of helplines and hotlines at all times.
Keep in touch with your children’s school for updates
Always be informed on how to reach out with your children’s teacher or school, ask questions, and ask for more guidance. Parenting groups or community groups can also be a good way to get a support system with your homeschooling.
